English - Simple Present Tense



Simple Present Tense The simple present tense is used.. 

1. to express a habitual action 
Eg.   He reads newspaper every day.
        She drinks milk every morning.
        I get up every day at six o'clock.
        My watch keeps good time.  

2. to express general truths
Eg.   The sun rices in the east
        Honey is sweet
        Fortune favours the brave
       
3. to express what is actually taking place in the present
Eg.   There it rains
        Here comes the bus
        There she goes

4. to express a future event that is part of a fixed time table or fixed programme
Eg.   The train to London leaves at 8.30 am 
        The meeting starts at 2.30 pm
        The next flight to Colombo is at 11.00 pm tomorrow
        When does the supermarket reopen?
